"Style means statement. It must be different, yet not too ahead of its time."
"Both style and function must be considered in every single step of the development process."
I think of every product I encounter with a few things in mind. Fashion, timeliness, and timelessness. Is this a style intended for limited customers? Is it timely enough to work with today’s trends or is it too far ahead of its time? Ultimately, will it be something the end user appreciates forever. Stone is an investment and not likely changed as trends come and go.
I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you. JUST KIDDING! Product development starts with a validated need. Once the direction for a specific year’s launch has been decided, I focus on how those products will fit into the designated void as a whole. From there I pull the best possible choices from available resources. Is this specific product the best option to fill our need and why? The focus on its function is the next step, which is the most difficult part of what I do when developing a product.
Both style and function must be considered in every single step of the development process. Natural stone is and has always been a cornerstone of design. If it’s attainable in a project to any degree, it’s what that designer wants as a focal point. Style means statement. It must be different, yet not too ahead of its time. Function could be its own chapter. I see the purpose of function is concentrating on all of the little thing of style, so our customer doesn’t have to.
This is an easy one for me. La Travonya from Turkey. It’s very much in the warm tone, high effect looks of my personal style. This stone’s story always brings a smile to my face. I was one of the very first people in the world to see this amazing stone. It’s not every day you see an intermingled blend of Travertine and Onyx in the same stone. I still enjoy seeing the same smile on other peoples’ faces the first time they are introduced to the stone.
